Horse Crazy

Raise your hand if you were a horse-crazy kid. My hand’s waving in the air! I was nuts about horses growing up. First, I pretended my bike was a horse. Then, I finally—finally—got to take riding lessons as a teen. It was a dream come true.

I also read everything I could about horses. I had a subscription to Horse Illustrated and devoured every single title in The Saddle Club and Blue Ribbon series. (Children of the ’80s and ’90s, how many of you remember those books? Click here and here for some serious nostalgia if you do.)

Needless to say, I was beyond thrilled when Lerner charged me with developing the My Favorite Horses series (cover pictured, left). This Spring 2012 series, available on January 1, 2012, profiles six different horse breeds, from the fast and muscular Morgan horse to the sweet and diminutive Shetland pony. And I got to work with author Elaine Landau on the books, which was pretty much the icing on the cake.

If you know a kid who’s into horses, you’ll want to snap this series up. Horse-crazy readers will love the carefully researched discussions of each breed’s traits, the informative full-spread horse diagram, and—of course—all the wonderful pictures of horses!
