Citizenship 101

I’m a big believer that most of our satisfaction in life comes from our relationships with others. And the quality of those relationships has everything to do with what we put into them. Lerner has a brand-new series that’s all about learning how to be a better family member, neighbor, and citizen. It’s called First Step Nonfiction—Responsibility in Action, and its titles include everything from How I Clean My Room and How I Care for My Pet (cover pictured) to How I Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle and How We Clean Up a Park.

In addition to learning about the joys of caring for others and engaging in their world, young readers will learn about sequencing words such as first, next, then, and last as they follow a child or group of children who are carrying out the steps required to behave in a responsible way. I’m really passionate about this series and what it has to offer K–2 readers. I love to imagine you blog readers out there picking these books up and handing them to the children in your lives. I hope to partner with each of you to introduce citizenship skills to a whole new generation!
