Welcome to a new month, book-lovers! However many weeks of winter may be left, it can’t hurt to have a free book for the hibernation season. Today–the 53rd anniversary of the first sit-in at a Greensboro, North Carolina lunch counter–seems a fitting day to give away a book about one of the civil rights movement’s most famous leaders. A free copy of A Marked Man: The Assassination of Malcolm X goes to Heidi Grange. Send us your mailing address and it’ll be on your doorstep faster than Punxsutawney Phil can crawl out of his hole.
Next up: The Twelve-Fingered Boy, John Hornor Jacobs’s debut young adult novel from Carolrhoda Lab.
You may think you’ve had your fill of teenage “superhero” stories, but that’s only because you haven’t yet met fifteen-year-old Shreve Cannon, juvenile delinquent and candy-dealer extraordinaire. If you do not love Shreve by the second sentence, you may be lacking either a sense of humor or a soul. Shreve certainly has both, even though he’s got a train wreck (er, trailer-wreck) of a home life, is doing time in juvie, and is about to get pulled into a harrowing supernatural cat-and-mouse game that I WILL NOT SPOIL by divulging further details.
(Nor will the book trailer.)
(The press release might, however.)*
Irritated by all this vagueness and wondering what the book is actually about? Then leave a comment below or Tweet this line: “Free Book Friday! RT to win THE TWELVE-FINGERED BOY from @LernerBooks! http://bit.ly/1OrSN“
You might just be lucky duck who wins The Twelve-Fingered Boy next Friday, February 8. Be sure to check back here to find out!
*Ha. Gotcha.
