Young Creators Take Over Lerner Publishing Group: Bring Your Kids to Work Day

Behind the Books: What Happens All Day in Publishing?

Last Thursday, Lerner Publishing Group’s Minneapolis office was buzzing with energy—and a lot of creativity—as more than 20 kids joined their grown-ups for a very special Bring Your Kids to Work Day. And this wasn’t just any behind-the-scenes tour: by the end of the day, every child had learned how a book is made and created their very own hardcover, bound book!

From Idea to Page: Writing and Designing Their Own Book!

The day was packed with hands-on activities that gave kids a real taste of the publishing world. They wrote their own stories in a writing workshop, designed colorful book covers, crafted personalized bookmarks, and even stepped into the spotlight to pitch their finished books to their peers and our team.

Discovering Clues to Publishing Success!

They also raced through a fun scavenger hunt in Lerner’s vibrant, history-rich brick building just off Washington Avenue in downtown Minneapolis, getting a closer look at all the behind-the-scenes spaces where books come to life. It was amazing to watch their imaginations in action—and even better to see the pride on their faces when they held their completed books.

As a family-run company, Bring Your Kids to Work Day at Lerner wasn’t just about exploring what we do; it was a celebration of storytelling, creativity, collaboration, and connections. Watching the kids discover the work their parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles do every day was truly inspiring.

A New Generation with Stories to Share

We can’t wait to see what these young authors and illustrators dream up next—maybe some future Lerner stars in the making!

Watching the kids discover the work their parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles do every day made it a truly special day.
