A Few Thanksgiving Faves!

A Few Thanksgiving Faves!

By Sara E. Hoffmann, School & Library Series Managing Editor

Turkey Day is coming soon, you guys! (Better known as Mashed Potatoes and Pumpkin Pie Day in my world … my two personal Thanksgiving favorites.) In preparation for the big celebration, here’s a fun list of Lerner books to get young ones in the Thanksgiving spirit.

It’s Thanksgiving!

Carefully leveled text paired with welcoming and colorful photos draw readers into learning about Thanksgiving traditions and how people celebrate this special day. Plus, you’ll find age-appropriate critical-thinking questions to help kids delve into the topic and a photo glossary to introduce them to new vocabulary words.

My Family Celebrates Thanksgiving

This may be my favorite of all our Thanksgiving offerings. Fresh from our new Early Bird Stories brand, this book has all the Holiday Biggies: Turkey! Mashed potatoes! Pie! Also the even more-important things: Loved ones, thankfulness, and the true reasons why we celebrate Thanksgiving. All are presented in an inviting picture-book format.

This title is a Lerner holiday classic. The front-cover photo of the familiar holiday parade beckons readers in, while the inside text provides an accessible and interesting overview of Thanksgiving. Color photographs help support the short, easy-to-understand sentences. A sweet introduction to the holiday.

Fall Harvest Fun

Another offering from Early Bird Stories, this book touches on pretty much everything there is to love about the harvest season. It follows a diverse cast of characters as they celebrate harvest and is sprinkled with critical-thinking, text-recall, and text-feature questions. There’s also a special photo section in the back that highlights fun facts about fall.

Happy Thanksgiving, one and all!
