“Everyone has that struggle subject in school,” says Darby Creek editor Mandi Janikowski.
“For me, it was math. I didn’t get it, didn’t care about it, didn’t want to learn more about it. So while reading has never been a problem for me, I can imagine how struggling and reluctant readers must feel when it’s time to pick out a book in school. I feel the same way. The main goal of Darby Creek is to create books that appeal to struggling and reluctant readers, giving them an enjoyable reading experience that encourages them to pick up another book.
