I love fall. I have so many memories of apple picking, pumpkin hunts, and collecting leaves. I remember collecting leaves was a classroom activity from first grade to fifth grade. Every year the class would go to a local park and spend the morning collecting the best leaves for an art project in the afternoon. Now I enjoy hiking the trails with my grandson collecting leaves. My grandson reviewed the book Back to School Rules on my blog. He loved it!

One of my favorite back to school memories is wearing brand new sweaters–even when the weather was still sweltering. I'd sweat through the day, but I just couldn't wait to wear my new back to school clothes.

My favorite back to school “memory” is actually a compilation of memories. Every year my mother would take one or two of my closest friends with me to a town an hour and a half away to go back to school clothes shopping. (We had to drive an hour and a half because that was the closest mall to where we lived.) Almost every year those same friends would come over to my house to get ready with me on the first day of school and my father would drive us to school. However, before we left for our first day of school, we would always take a couple “back to school” photos in our new clothes. I still have every one of those pictures and remember those times fondly. It is comical and wonderful to see how much we changed every year in regards to our hair, clothes, makeup, etc.

Fall is a wonderful time of year, not to hot, not to cold, just right. I think my favorite memory of fall is just going for a car ride up in the mountains to look at the changing leaves with my family. Sigh. Makes me smile just thinking about it.

We don't have fall weather when we go back to school. Our back to school is in August, and during September we're always finally having our summer weather. LOL – heat waves! My favorite back to school memories usually have to do with that first three day weekend OFF after school has started. And I have bittersweet memories of when my children were young and going to school – sweet because they were always so excited. Bitter because I had to get up early with them to get them ready. I've never been good at the early morning motherhood thing. LOL. But now I'm having fun with preschool age grandchildren and collecting books for them, hoping that they're going to get a head start on reading. 🙂

Fall is one of the best times of the year! My memories are going to the pumpkin patch and the school carnival. I am now working to keep those memories alive with my own children each year!

Fall is definitely one of my favorite seasons. Apples, chrysanthemums, apples, curried pumpkin soup with cheese and crusty bread, apples… And the lovely weather & cozy evenings; the poignant sense of ubi sunt as the first yellow leaves fall. The “morning mist, and silver sun, and wind upon my hair”(thanks, Tolkien, one of the authors who seems to best capture the autumn season).
